Day 6 - We're taking a taxi to the airport ... So why are we @ train station

Well - we needed to get to the airport this morning around 11 to pick up the rental car. We opted to get the rental car from the airport because we didn't dare tempt fate and drive on the streets of Roma.

Off we go from the apartment - walk to the taxi stand. No taxis. Go into tourist bureau (conveniently (and that's one of the only times I've used that word in Italy) located beside taxi stand. Go in to inquire ... "io bezonga una taxi por fumnicino" ... Thinking the answer would be simple. It was not.

Taxis in Rome are all on strike - they start driving at 2 ...

No biggie.

Walk to bus stop ... (Oh, did I mention we have 2 V large suitcases, two carry ons, a purse and a shopping bag full of shoes?) ... Which was across the street - crossing the street in Roma is a test of will on a good day with NO bags ... But we made it to the bus stop. Onto the bus (no tickets b/c we'd thrown out our Roma pass - but no one asked) ... Get to main train station ... Buy tickets for express to train to Fiumincino (airport) ...

So - that's why we're at the train station when we were supposed to take a taxi. Oh well, a little more hassle - but an adventure for sure :)

All abord!

- O
